The New York triathlon was canceled this Wednesday due to the corona virus, the organization of the event, which was due to take place on July 19, said in a statement.
“Because of the significant impact COVID-19 will continue to have on our community, we made the difficult decision to cancel the New York Triathlon 2020,” said the organization, which stressed how “incredibly difficult” it was to cancel the event , it hasn’t been celebrated since last year, in this case by the heat.
However, the organization has confirmed that they believe they have done the “right thing” to “protect the safety and best interests of those involved in the triathlon”.
“As we said before, the health and wellbeing of our participants, volunteers, salespeople, medical teams, and community and team members are top priorities,” they said.
The corona virus was also forced to suspend the Boston Marathon for the first time in its 124th edition last week. The United States is the country most affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
