When the Covid-19 was installed in Mexico and the classes migrated to online platforms, innovation classes received a new meaning. Now the social and technological phenomena that can be used for production innovative content were in the background.

I wanted to teach my students, interest them in something and support them. I could only imagine working with them on digital communication projects that had some innovations. A fairly accepted definition of innovation is to introduce improvements in the process or presentation of something so that the kids get creative what they like.

With two hours of tuition per week, the students studied concepts, analyzed suggestions and created interesting things. These guys, almost all of them from the last semesters of communication at the UP, worked on their prototypes, pitch presentations for almost eight weeks, designed the audience and prepared, among other things, for a coordination with music, photography, ecology, fashion – and history projects. .

What really matters

The first lesson I received this semester went hand in hand with the topics that caught your attention. There was no shortage of sports and music projects. However, what impressed me the most was that they identified specific and important problems for which they offered interesting solutions.

For example, Jorge likes basketball and the problem he identified is that all the summaries are very long. Pamela is a player and likes to bet Gameplays As a background noise for society, I didn’t know there was a full market where you could develop your idea.

What I learned: that The best place to look for innovation is your passion. Everyone knows what they want and will therefore try to improve it. Thanks to the brand new editor of this portal, I have added an important premise to the instruction: Do not fall in love with the problem that you will solve, not with your proposal. Voila!

Araiza is a photography fan and has created an app that you can share with Hot spots take good photos and use those of others to have these dream photos.

Money is important: change

Lesson number two: People want to do a lot of things, but they don’t know where to start. With this class, my children reaffirmed an idea that I teach sporadically, but now they gave me tools to carry it out: Most of us want to show the way.

Two of the finalist projects focused on this idea. For example, Valeria’s Futuro Circular app ensures that people want to be green but have no idea how to start. If this app could be developed, users could not only receive daily content per day, but also make progress in increasingly environmentally friendly ways. Incidentally, this was the winning prototype.

Another interesting idea: an app for people who want to improve their image. The innovation that Fernanda is proposing concerns the segment of the population that does not take the time to do so and how it can get their attention. Interesting, isn’t it?

Several prototypes focused on promoting culture and history in an entertaining way. Another app wanted to increase book sales through curious data. Three wanted to use social networks to get their message across.

Experience makes the difference

Finally Dany taught us that a world full fake newsIt is necessary to have certainty about what we know through verification. Your app is a very good thing for journalists who support their work in facts, as well as for the whole population who wants to have accurate information.

WabiSabi, translated from Japanese as “beauty of imperfection”, was one of the projects that I personally liked best. In addition to the content, users were able to answer a quiz about what they had learned that day. By collecting enough points, the participants could receive up to 10 products with the sole aim of agreeing with women.

For Paula, this app offers “a personalized experience where women know more about how they can love each other inside and out … it’s time to accept, appreciate and love ourselves when we make mistakes,” she says in their pitch.

The corona virus, with its lightning-fast learning, taught me the incredible talent that the generations that are nearing completion of their studies have. I think the most important lesson my students taught me this semester is that innovation comes from within. Maybe we cannot understand or define it, but we can express it.

Music, art, culture, sports, photography, journalism and love for oneself have to do with filling us. Although it is not about material things, it is important to complete ourselves with what matters, what gives us new experiences and what changes us.
