An explosion in a mine in the province of Kunar in north-eastern Afghanistan resulted in two deaths and three injuries on Tuesday, local officials said.
Provincial government spokesman Abdul Ghani Mosamem said the explosion took place in the Shigal district around 10:30 a.m. and regretted that there were a woman and child among the deceased.
As the Pasban news agency explains, the victims were on their way to a wedding when the device that the Taliban would have placed on a street in the area exploded.
According to the United Nations Aid Mission to the Country (UNAMA), nearly 1,300 civilians were killed in the first half of 2020 after the war in Afghanistan. 26 percent of these victims were the result of incidents involving explosive devices and mines.
