Colombian social leader Sigifredo Gutierrez was shot dead in his home in the Cauca department, the authorities confirmed on Saturday.
Gutiérrez was president of the Morales Community Action Board and headed the coronavirus checkpoint. According to the Institute for Development and Peace Research (Indepaz), 56 social leaders were killed in Cauca this year.
A few days earlier, Óscar Andrés Ceballos, Johan Andrés Pardo and Rosalbini Becoche were murdered at the checkpoint.
According to the Colombian newspaper El Espectador, several members of armed groups have refused to respect the new rules that have been imposed in the city in the face of the pandemic.
