A midwife who worked at Doctors Without Borders (MSF) died Tuesday in an attack on an NGO-supported maternity home, a spokesman for the organization confirmed on Thursday.
“The organization received certainty of the death of the Afghan employee this Thursday,” said the spokesman in statements to the German news agency DPA.
MSF expressed its devastation on Wednesday after the “repulsive attack” on motherhood it manages at Dasthte Barchi hospital, confirming that the attack has initially ceased providing aid to pregnant women and mothers with newborn babies.
According to the latest balance sheet offered by the authorities, 24 civilians were killed and another 16 injured in the attack. In its statement, the NGO noted that there were “multiple patients” among the deceased before indicating that there was “evidence” of the death of at least one of its workers.
