More than 1,000 students at the University of Alabama have tested positive for coronavirus since class began on the campus in the US city of Tuscaloosa two weeks ago.
As reported by the university itself, the health authorities registered 158 cases among students on campus last year. Currently, the number of positives after class started on August 19 has reached 1,201.
The university has reported that no student has been hospitalized because of the pandemic. “We continue to be pleased with the precautions taken to resume classes, including the mask, the detachment and the mix between online and face-to-face teaching,” said Ricky Friend, dean of the School of Health Sciences at the University of Alabama. .
University president Stuart Bell wrote a letter on Wednesday urging the university community to wear a mask and keep a safe distance. “At this critical time, we have to stay united and fully fight against COVID-19,” reports Bell.
