Mass tests on workers from the pork processing companies JBS and BRF in Brazil have shown more than a thousand new positive results for the corona virus, the authorities in Mato Grosso do Sul said on Friday.
1,075 employees in a JBS pig factory in particular had carried out positive tests by July 1, which corresponds to 30 percent of the tests processed so far. Another 85 workers in a BRF poultry factory are infected with 1,500 workers.
JBS has performed 4,134 tests, of which 2,518 were negative. Another 541 results are still pending. The company employs nearly 4,300 people at the Dourados plant, the epicenter of the coronavirus in Mato Grosso do Sul.
According to the company, JBS is itself the largest meat processor in the world, which emphasizes the strict bio-sanitary protocols in its plants according to the regulations of the ministries of health, agriculture and economy.
