More than 550 people arrested in China after an operation against the sale of medical identities over the Internet

Chinese police arrested more than 550 people during a major operation in various parts of the country against the illegal sale of medical IDs, the Public Security Ministry reported on Saturday.

Under the pretext of “promoting digital health insurance certificates,” the ministry said the suspects illegally collected cell phone numbers and other personal information from middle-aged and elderly people in rural areas.

In total, more than 90 searches were carried out, according to the official Xinhua News Agency, in which agents seized more than 40,000 illegal accounts and a total of 600,000 personal information.
