BERLIN, August 1 (DPA / EP) –
Around 15,000 people took part in a protest against restrictions to curb the coronavirus pandemic in Berlin this Saturday, although more infections have been registered in Germany in recent weeks.
The demonstrators marched near the emblematic Brandenburg Gate, largely without complying with the prescribed preventive distance to avoid infections and without wearing masks. In fact, they asked those who wore them to take them off.
The demonstrators called for slogans such as “freedom” and “resistance” and denounced the proclamation of the coronavirus pandemic as “the greatest conspiracy theory”.
The protest was called “End of the Pandemic – Freedom Day”. The security forces held a counter-demonstration, “Get out of the Nazis!” Called without major incidents.
