More than 12.5 million people have overcome COVID-19 in 188 countries hit by the new coronavirus pandemic, which infected more than 20 million people and recorded more than 740,000 deaths at Johns Hopkins University.
A total of 20,295,343 people became infected with the virus and 741,423 died from it, compared to 20,092,855 and 736,254 on Tuesday, a daily increase of 202,488 positives and 5,169 deaths. During the same period, however, the number of patients cured rose from 12.3 to 12.5 million.
The United States, Brazil and India were confirmed as the top three countries hit by the pandemic this week. In that order, there were more than ten million cases of coronavirus. Thus, they have 5,141,208 positive and 164,537 deaths; 3,057,470 and 101,752; and 2,329,638 and 46,091, respectively.
Russia is in fourth place with 895,691 infected and 15,103 dead, followed by South Africa – the hardest hit country in Africa – with 566,109 and 10,751; Mexico (492,522 and 53,929), Peru (489,680 and 21,501); Colombia (410,453 and 13,475); Chile (376,616 and 10,178); and Iran (331,189 and 18,800), which complete the “top ten”.
