More than 100 MPs call on Borrell to investigate the Navalni case internationally and promote sanctions

A group of more than one hundred MEPs sent a joint letter this Friday calling for EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell to support an international investigation into the attack on Russian opponent Alexei Navalni and to propose community sanctions against those responsible impose.

In a letter sponsored by German ecologist Sergei Lagondisky, more than a hundred members of the parliament condemn the attack on Navalni after confirming to the German government that the Russian opposition leader had been poisoned with a poison.

Although they support calls by several European governments and Community diplomacy to Russia to launch a full and transparent investigation into the attack, they recall that the Kremlin was instrumental in investigating the deaths of other dissidents such as Ana Politkovskaya or Boris Nemtsov, among others.
