Former Bolivian President Evo Morales will be the campaign leader of his party, the Al Socialismo Movement (MAS), in the face of the new presidential elections that the country plans to hold to overcome the political crisis unleashed by the elections of October 20.

“If the Government allows its return, (Morales) will be our campaign manager,” announced the president of the Chamber of Deputies and deputy of the MAS, Sergio Choque, in a press conference, according to the Bolivian newspaper 'Page Seven'.

Morales resigned on November 10 after the Organization of American States (OAS) found “irregularities” in the electoral process. Since then, he is in Mexico as a political asylee.

The indigenous leader has expressed his desire to return to Bolivia, although he has given up repeating as a presidential candidate of the MAS. The agreement that the MAS and the other parties have reached in Congress to hold new elections expressly vetoes it.

Morales' return to Bolivia has been complicated after the new Government of Jeanine Áñez, whom neither he nor his followers recognize, has denounced him for terrorism and sedition, among other charges.

“I have a deep internal debate about what to do,” he said in an interview published Monday by the Argentine newspaper 'Page 12'. “For the Bolivian people, for the political instrument, for the MAS, do I serve more as an asylum in Mexico or imprisoned in Bolivia? I will be where I serve more. Here or imprisoned in Bolivia,” he said.

Discarded Morales and his vice president, Álvaro García Linera, also vetoed in said agreement, the mystery is who will pick up his witness in the MAS. Questioned in this regard, Shock has refused to advance a name, emphasizing that the presidential candidate will be elected in a party congress.

In addition, it has justified the agreement in the Legislative Assembly. “Some colleagues criticized us because they told us that we were selling to the right, but we understood that it was important to give peace and tranquility to the population,” he said.

More than 30 people have died and hundreds have been injured due to clashes between supporters and detractors of Morales and the security forces. In recent weeks the situation has calmed down, although there are still protests.
