Minneapolis declares the emergency because of the unrest that resulted from the death of the black man by the police

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has declared a local emergency in this Minnesota city because of the unrest caused by the death of George Floyd, a black man who died after being arrested by the police.

In a statement released by his office, Frey stated that Minneapolis has requested help from the Minnesota government, including a permit for the National Guard to “assist civilians in” restoring security and tranquility due to the unrest, “the post Floyd’s death had surfaced, and Frey had already asked the National Guard for help “to keep the situation under control.”

The emergency will be effective for 72 hours and gives Frey the opportunity to apply emergency provisions “immediately”.

In this regard, the Minnesota National Guard has reported via the Twitter social network that it has deployed 500 soldiers to be distributed between Minneapolis and Saint Paul, the state capital, while protests continue at both locations.
