Microsoft confirmed its intention to buy the TikTok mobile phone application in the United States this Sunday after its executive director Satya Nadella had a conversation with President Donald Trump.
“Microsoft is ready to continue discussions to investigate the purchase of TikTok in the United States,” the company said in a statement released on its “blog.”
According to the company, it will “quickly” start discussions with TikTok’s own company ByteDance, with the aim of ending “in a few weeks”. Regarding the possible date, it was argued that the discussions could be closed “by September 15th at the latest”. During the trial, Microsoft said it hoped to continue its dialogue with the United States government, including the President.
The talks with ByteDance are based on a communication to the United States Foreign Investment Committee. In the statement, the company states that both have announced their intention to consider a preliminary proposal that would include the purchase of TikTok not only in the United States, but also in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
