Mexico overtook Italy with 35,006 deaths from coronavirus deaths on Sunday and positioned itself as the fourth country most affected by the pandemic in terms of deaths worldwide.
The Mexican Minister of Health confirmed a total of 299,750 positive results. After Saturday, the country surpassed the UK in several cases and is the seventh country with the highest number of infections worldwide.
Mexico has surpassed Italy in the number of deaths that, according to Johns Hopkins University, have resulted in 34,954 coronavirus deaths. First, there are 135,176 deaths in the United States; followed by Brazil, which exceeds 72,000; and nearly 45,000 deaths in the UK.
In this situation, the Under Secretary of State for Prevention and Health Promotion of Mexico, Hugo López-Gatell, has assured that the search for the perpetrators of the pandemic is “useless”. “Companies tend to look for guilty parties and that is not very productive,” he said, according to the El Universal newspaper.
For this reason, he has asked for “unity” to cope with the coronavirus and has stated that the media “likes to count” the infections. “There will be more and more cases. There will be a record number every day,” said López-Gatell.
