Mexico launches a nationally made mechanical ventilator to fight the coronavirus

August 14, 2020

Mexico has unveiled the VSZ-20-2 mechanical respirator, made as part of a collaborative initiative between the public and private sectors as part of the fight against the pandemic in the Aztec nation in the country.

The presentation, given by Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard on Thursday, stressed that this is an achievement due to the “national effort” in which more than 800 Mexicans have participated.

“Mexico will no longer have to import fans in the near future and with such efforts we can increase the response capacity of our system very quickly,” he said, according to a statement from the State Department.

With that in mind, Héctor Valle Mesto, Executive President of the Mexican Health Foundation, said more than 3,000 respirators have been shipped thanks to the Together for Health program, and predicted the number will continue to grow in the coming weeks.
