Mexico topped 40,000 deaths from COVID-19 on Tuesday with more than 356,000 confirmed cases, according to the balance offered by the country’s health authorities.
Mexico’s epidemiology director, José Luis Alomía, said that 915 new coronavirus deaths have been confirmed in the country in the last 24 hours, bringing the worldwide number to 40,400 deaths. The North American country is the fourth largest country with the most deaths worldwide after the United States, Brazil and the United Kingdom.
In infected people, Alomia announced that 6,859 new positives were diagnosed on Tuesday, which is why Mexico has already counted 356,255 infections, according to local newspaper El Universal.
Alomía also said that 227,165 people in Mexico managed to recover from the disease. Regarding hospital employment, he detailed that 16,607 general hospital beds are available and 14,225 are occupied. 6,399 beds in intensive care units or beds with mechanical respiratory masks are free of charge and 3,812 are occupied.
