MetaMask announced that it has updated the license to use its products.
In a press release posted on its blog, the company stated that the new updates will have no impact on all end users, most app developers, and nonprofits and will be free to these groups.
The company made it clear that it will continue to publish and iterate the wallet provider’s API in the public domain to ensure a fully supported application ecosystem. He added that he would continue to be required to publish all of the code in a public repository.
What about using MetaMask for commercial purposes?
According to MetaMask Developers who copy, modify, or share the MetaMask Base Code for commercial use are requested to sign a formal trade agreement with the company.
“For example, if you’ve copied MetaMask and are commercializing it to an audience of 10,000 active monthly users or more, we would like to enter into a formal commercial agreement,” the company said.
MetaMask justified this step with the words: In order to be able to offer high-quality products in the future, it was necessary to receive fair remuneration that enables them to develop further.
It’s worth noting that last July, MetaMask released the eighth update to its Ethereum wallet, which includes a number of new features such as improved privacy controls and a new account login system.
