The German Chancellor Angela Merkel this Saturday praised the role of the health authorities in the fight against the pandemic of the new coronavirus from the Chinese city of Wuhan and made sure that the country was not able to arrive due to her work with such high levels of infection as other nations.
“If our country has done relatively well so far in weathering the pandemic, if the level of infection has not reached the level we have seen in other countries, it is largely due to the work that public health does on a daily basis.” said the head of government in her weekly video message.
On Friday, the government and federal states held talks to improve public health facilities. The government promised to allocate an additional € 4,000 million in quarantine aid to the public health sector, whose authorities play an important role in monitoring chains of contagion, ordering tests and complying with them.
Merkel emphasized that health care workers had made a “major contribution” to combating the pandemic. He also confirmed that he would have a dialogue with representatives of the sector, in particular to find out “how the work of the local health authorities is developing, what challenges they are facing and how they can be helped at political level”.
The Prime Minister has stressed that it is now a matter of strengthening this sector in the long term and stressed that the planned public health pact includes job creation and the further improvement of technological equipment. Merkel emphasized the importance of having faster digital communication channels.
