The city of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, has broken the record for daily cases across Australia and, according to Australian authorities, has recorded a total of 484 positive results in the past 24 hours.
Victoria’s prime minister, Daniel Andrews, warned that Melbourne’s contagion numbers were rising and confirmed the death of two men in their nineties as a result of COVID-19 caused by the coronavirus, bringing the total to 128 deaths nationally.
Melbourne, the second largest city in Australia, has surpassed the maximum number of daily infections across the country with 469 positive coronavirus infections on March 28. The last locally transmitted outbreak of corona viruses in Melbourne started in June and the state has recorded three-digit daily numbers for the past three weeks.
Around five million Melbourne citizens are in the second of six weeks in prison. Face masks have been used in the city since Wednesday evening.
