ROME, Aug 29 (EUROPE PRESS) –
The president of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, has entrusted Giuseppe Conte on Thursday the formation of Government in Italy after the agreement reached the day before between the 5 Star Movement (M5S) and the Democratic Party (PD).
The agreement between the two parties – first and second force in Parliament – thus avoids the electoral advance that the leader of the League, Matteo Salvini, sought to seek by breaking the coalition with those of Luigi di Maio who ruled the country from March 2018 elections.
Conte's continuation as prime minister has been the main obstacle in the negotiations, but finally the PD gave the green light on Wednesday. It remains to be seen now what the composition of his cabinet will be and if Di Maio maintains his position as deputy prime minister, something that has been criticized since the PD.
