Pemberton was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2015 for the murder of Jennifer Laude, who was strangled in the bathroom of a motel in Olongapo City, northern Philippines, when he noticed the victim had male genitals.
The US military man, an “unwanted foreigner” according to Morente, committed the murder in October 2014 when he was 19 years old. He has since served part of the sentence, five years and eight months, in a prison in a barracks in Manila.
