Malian army soldiers open fire on German blue helmets

The Bundeswehr announced on Wednesday that soldiers from the Malian army opened fire on German UN blue helmets in front of the Castor military camp in the city of Gao.

A spokesman for the German task force announced that the soldiers were shot on Tuesday night, although there were no injuries. According to the spokesman, the incident occurred near the camp.

There is currently no explanation for the attack. The mission command has contacted the Malian armed forces about an investigation.

Members of the Bundeswehr are stationed at Camp Castor to support the UN troops of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).
