Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced this Friday the arrest of a suspected “US spy” in the state of Falcón and guaranteed that he had “all the evidence” of alleged espionage in the Amuay and Cardón refineries.
“Yesterday we captured an American spy in Falcón,” Maduro reported on VTV. The alleged spy is, as he has stated, “a Marine who served in the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) bases in Iraq”.
The Venezuelan President has stated that the man was carrying “special heavy weapons” and a “large amount in cash” at the time of his capture. The detainee has been taken to the Venezuelan public prosecutor’s office, which will open an investigation. “It’s in the declaration phase,” he revealed.
Maduro has pointed out that this fact was added to an alleged plan to explode the El Palito refinery in Carabobo state that Venezuelan oil minister Tareck El Aissami denounced two days ago.
