Macron tests socialist Ségolène Royal as minister of her new government

The former presidential candidate of the French Socialist Party, Ségolène Royal, confirmed this Saturday that President Emmanuel Macron’s surroundings have contacted her to discuss the possibility of joining the new government, which will be presented this Monday.

Royal said in an interview with BFMTV that he would only accept the proposal on condition that he would “adopt a more social policy” if it was committed.

“Someone close to the President of the Republic called me,” Royal said this Saturday. “We know who I am, what I have said about what has happened in France over the past three years. Last Friday, Macron appointed conservative Jean Castex Prime Minister to gradually lift restrictions to fight the coronavirus pandemic. This Monday the new government will be introduced, which will have around twenty ministers.
