French President Emmanuel Macron has opened the international donor conference he has called this Sunday with the aim of raising the money needed to support Beirut after the explosions recorded in the port last Tuesday. Lebanon’s future is at stake. “
“The future of Lebanon is at stake,” he said in the opening speech of the donor conference, which, according to French broadcaster BFMTV, is practically taking place due to restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Macron stated that the aim of the conference is to enlist the help of the international community to “respond quickly to the needs of the people of Beirut” and ensure they reach them directly.
However, he took the opportunity to insist on the political message he launched during his visit to Beirut on Thursday and urged the Lebanese government to implement the reforms necessary to “respond to the legitimate aspirations of the Lebanese people react”.
