Lukashenko ugly about the EU that “it has not even studied its plan to send 2,000 migrants”

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said he was “waiting” for the European Union’s response to its offer to host around 2,000 migrants and refugees and regretted that the bloc had “not even examined” a proposal that, in principle, was mainly aimed at Germany.

Lukashenko had two phone calls with Chancellor Angela Merkel last week, who had “promised” to point out possible solutions to the “problem” of the Belarusian borders, where thousands of people are pushing towards the EU. Central Europe, mainly via Poland.

“I’m waiting for the EU decision on the 2,000 refugees,” said Lukashenko at a meeting in which he directly asked the bloc to “take them away,” as the official BelTA news agency announced. “We will treat these migrants our way if Germany does not take them with us,” he warned.

The Belarusian president has promised to “support” those who want to pursue his European path, but also those who “have expressed their wish to return to Iraq, to Syria”. With this in mind, it has announced the organization of another return flight before the end of November after the transfer of a first group of Iraqis.

“Our policy in this migration crisis will remain the same. We will not deliberately bring anyone across the border,” added Lukashenko, who is accused by both the EU in general and Poland in particular, of the current situation as a measure of political pressure.

Minsk, which through the mouth of its president denies any will to “confront”, considers it the opposite, Warsaw is trying to take advantage of it. In this context, Lukashenko has stated that the Polish government wants to “distract” from its own “problems”.
