Lukashenko receives a guarantee from Putin that he will protect the security of Belarus

August 15, 2020

The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, assured this Saturday that he had received a guarantee from his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to protect the security of his country, which was embroiled in political protests after last week’s controversial presidential elections.

“We have agreed that (Russia) will provide assistance to ensure the security of the Republic of Belarus upon request,” Lukashenko said in statements to the official Belarusian news agency BelTA.

In the meantime, the Russian Interior Ministry has searched and captured the former candidate for the Belarusian presidency, the opposition Valeri Tsepkalo, in its database, despite the former candidate’s campaign claiming to be ignorant of this order.
