French and Italian extreme right leaders, Marine Le Pen and Matteo Salvini, have criticized the EU leaders’ agreement on the Coronavirus pandemic recovery fund earlier this Tuesday morning.
The head of the National Rally was the most energetic of the two and directly stated that French President Emmanuel Macron signed “the worst deal for France in the entire history of the EU”.
“To protect his ego, he sacrificed our future and our independence: European taxes, the abandonment of our agriculture and a massive financial commitment of our country,” wrote Le Pen on Twitter.
The deal has also come under fire from the French left. The leader of France Insumisa, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, asked himself on the same social network, “where is the gain for France in this agreement”.
