North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Wednesday rejected the US dialogue proposals as “a facade” to “cover up his hostilities” against Pyongyang and announced the restoration of lines of communication with South Korea for “early October” .
In a speech to the Supreme People’s Congress, Kim attacked Washington’s “military threat” and “hostile policy” against North Korea, which he saw “not at all”, as was “clearly demonstrated”. since the beginning of the new administration, led by President Joe Biden, the official North Korean agency KCNA reports.
“The form and method of its expression are becoming increasingly cunning,” criticized the North Korean leader, who has distorted the “terrible military activities” of the US and South Korea, which “destroy the stability and balance around the peninsula”. .
It is for this reason that she has shown her opposition to Washington’s repeated dialogue proposals advocating an “unconditional” conversation, an offer Kim has described as a “facade” to “deceive and cover up the international community.” his hostilities ”.
“It is just an extension of the hostile policies of US governments in the past,” he repeated, to suggest that “the most fundamental danger” today is “the power and arbitrariness of the United States and its supporters.”
With that in mind, it has censored Seoul’s participation with Washington in the military exercises for which it has requested “prior to the declaration of the end of the war (by Korea),” an issue alleged by South Korea, “mutual respect” between the two parties.
“The South Korean authorities should change their usual attitude towards confrontation with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), defend the position of national independence through action rather than words, and treat inter-Korean relations in a way that solves fundamental problems first.”
Kim therefore recalled that “once again” it depends on the “attitude” of the South Korean authorities whether inter-Korean relations “will be restored and developed into a new phase or whether the current deterioration continues”.
For this reason, he called on his neighboring country “to come out of the deception of containing the provocations in North Korea” and assured that “it has no intention of causing or inflicting damage”.
As part of an “effort to achieve expectations and aspirations” that “strained” inter-Korean relations “be restored as soon as possible and a solid peace prevail,” the North Korean leader announced that the North-South communications lines that interrupted in August will be restored “from the beginning of October”.
Both countries reopened official communication channels in July after a long silence of thirteen months. However, North Korea did not respond in August to attempts by South Korea to establish regular contacts in protest against joint maneuvers between Seoul and Washington in the same month.
Kim’s speech came on the same day that Pyongyang confirmed it had tested a newly developed hypersonic missile, a demonstration discovered and analyzed by the Japanese and South Korean authorities and the United States. In addition, North Korea recently tested a new rail missile system.
In this context, the North Korean head of state said on Wednesday that the country is promoting “the development of a new and powerful weapon system” in the defense sector, which will “deal with the unstable military situation on the Korean peninsula” and “the military movements of enemy forces.”
On the other hand, the North Korean People’s Supreme Assembly on Wednesday elected the sister of North Korean ruler Kim Yo Jong as a possible successor to power as one of the members of the State Affairs Commission, the country’s main government body.
