Johnson precludes opening an investigation by his top advisor and insists on “moving forward”.

May 28, 2020

Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Wednesday ruled out an investigation into the behavior of his senior adviser, Dominic Cummings, who went on a 400-kilometer personal trip when he was quarantined for 14 days, and insisted that he “move forward”.

Johnson has also rejected claims that his failure to fire Cummings damaged his prime ministerial authority and the UK government’s message about the corona virus, the BBC reported. Finally, he assured that the population had already had enough with the “political struggle”.

The Cummings case triggered a political storm in the United Kingdom. At least twelve members of the Johnson Conservative Party have spoken out in favor of Cummings’ resignation.

Cummings brought his 4-year-old son to his relatives in Durham, 400 kilometers from London, when his wife was diagnosed with coronavirus and had symptoms. Therefore, he had to be locked up according to the regulations. The woman accompanied Cummings on this trip. Johnson, on the other hand, supported it because, in his opinion, he “had no alternative”.
