Job postings from Amazon indicate a digital currency payments project is being launched in Mexico

The American e-commerce giant, Amazon is developing a new service that allows its customers to shop with digital currencies. according to the company’s vacancies.

According to an official job advertisement on Amazon, The company is building a technology team to enable a new payment service for digital currencies. Currently known as the “Digital and Emerging Payments” project, or DEP for its acronym in English, the service is initially being rolled out in Mexico and will allow citizens to purchase cryptocurrencies with cash to spend on purchases. The job advertisement reads:

“We are looking for a leader to help us launch a new payment product, starting with Mexico as the first launch country. This product will allow customers to convert their cash into digital currencies that customers can use to use online services, including purchasing goods and services / or services like Prime Video “.

As part of the offering, managers focused on Amazon’s digital currency are required to have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or other equivalent with more than three years of experience managing the deployment of distributed software systems.

According to LinkedIn, the job offer was published on February 4th. Before the application was released, Amazon announced that its founder and CEO Jeff Bezos should step down by the end of 2021.

Amazon did not immediately respond to Cointelegraph’s request for comment.
