Jamaica’s Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS) Audrey Marks took over the presidency of the Organization’s Permanent Council this Thursday for the next quarter, which is the 50th General Assembly of the Organization.
The Jamaican representative said the world is going through “difficult times”: “small and big, rich and poor” because of the coronavirus pandemic, which affects all countries equally.
“We look forward to working with all delegations over the next three months, especially as we prepare for the next 50th ordinary session of the General Assembly, in a spirit of dialogue, consultation and consent not to consent if the situation so requires . ” “said the organization itself, according to a statement.
For his part, the outgoing President of the Council, Luis Cordero, said that during his mandate, “multilateralism has been strengthened every day and we have ensured that the four pillars of the OAS continue to be best served”.
