LDK supports native APIs using the Rust, C, Swift, Java, and Kotlin coding languages. This allows developers to customize their wallet application for their users in the language of their choice without the need for separate Bitcoin and LN wallets.

In the video The former Twitter CEO described LDK as a program that “makes it easy for any developer in the world to build a wallet”..

The video shows a Jack Dorsey doll interacting with sellers and owners who pay for services using the Lightning Network (LN).. He uses his mobile LN wallet app to pay for a nose piercing and a movie ticket as a video clip that regularly tells the Spiral team about the benefits of Bitcoin and the LN.

Spiral, formerly known as Square Crypto, has been developing Bitcoin wallet solutions since its inception in 2019. In addition to the LDK, Spiral is working on the Bitcoin Development Kit, which enables cross-platform mobile wallet interactions.

Lightning is a Layer 2 scaling solution for Bitcoin that, says Spiral project manager Haley Berkoe, “turns Bitcoin into a real payment system”.

Spiral’s Conor Okus expects his LDK to increase Bitcoin and LN adoption, “by giving people in different parts of the world an opportunity to store value and participate in economic activities.”

The product launch comes at a happy time for Lightning users as network nodes hit all-time highs. The latest reading from Bitcoin Visuals shows that there are 18,905 nodes with active channels on the Lightning network.

Over the past 3 months, the total number of nodes has increased by 23%, with 3,534 new nodes added. The LN currently has a network capacity of 3,285 BTC, or about $ 166 million according to 1ML.
