Italian Health Minister Roberto Speranza announced this Friday that authorities will add the age groups likely to receive a third dose of the coronavirus vaccine to the list.
“Starting next week, we will be working on expanding (the third dose) to subsequent age categories,” said Speranza at a press conference in which she stated that this third injection is particularly recommended for people over 60 who have completed pattern six Months or more ago.
Likewise, the government has indicated that people with pre-existing or susceptible pathologies can also receive the third dose “regardless of their age,” according to information from the newspaper “La Repubblica”.
“An alarm message has come from WHO about the epidemiological situation in Europe, which we need to be aware of,” stressed the minister, who reminded that, despite the vaccine, we “have to follow the path of good behavior”.
For his part, the extraordinary commissioner for the management of the pandemic-caused emergency, General Fancesco Figliuolo, confirmed that the authorities have already taken the appropriate steps to procure the appropriate quantities of oral antivirals from the UK.
Figliuolo has also made it clear that the third dose will be used between the months of December and February in particular. “We have already reserved enough doses for 2022 that we can give the third injection to anyone who has completed a vaccination cycle,” he said.
Currently, nearly 2 million people have received this final dose in the country while nearly 45 million citizens are already receiving two doses of the vaccine.
