Italy has seen a new increase in deaths and infections and now has more than 226,000 cases

Italy saw a further increase in the number of deaths and new infections on Tuesday, after good data on Monday, causing the number of deaths to drop below 100 for the first time since 9 March, although the number of hospitalized patients continues to decrease, below 10,000 fall.

Civil protection reports that 162 more people have died in the last 24 hours, a number that is in contrast to 99 the day before and which has increased the total number to 32,169. In addition, there were 813 new infections – up from 451 on Monday – increasing the pandemic balance in Italy to 226,699 cases.

The number of positive cases decreased by 1,424 to 65,129. There are currently 9,991 in the hospital, 216 fewer than on Monday. It is the first time since March 15 that it has dropped below 10,000 in the hospital. There are 716 people in intensive care, 33 fewer than the day before.
