Italy confirms 346 new infections, almost a hundred of them in Milan, and a further 55 daily deaths

The Italian government has confirmed 346 new infections, almost a hundred of which have been registered in the city of Milan, and a further 55 have died of coronavirus across the country in the last 24 hours.

The total number of people infected since the epidemic began is 236,651, and the number of deaths has increased to 34,401. The total number of active cases is now 27,485.

Compared to Friday, the number of deaths in Italy has decreased (79 yesterday), but the number of infections has increased (283).

Of the new cases, 210 were registered in the most affected region, Lombardy. There in the city of Milan, the authorities have confirmed a total of 97 infections in the last 24 hours. The Italian health authorities have recognized that they have great difficulty in eliminating the contagion curve in a region where approximately one in four antibody tests gives a positive result.
