Italy approves a decree regulating the release of gangsters based on corona viruses

The Italian Council of Ministers passed a legislative decree regulating the release of members of the mafia for health reasons, particularly due to the threat of the corona virus, following the controversy triggered by the Exkarelación of 376 prisoners associated with the criminal organization.

The Legislative Decree empowers the courts to reassess the permanence of the health emergency reasons within fifteen days of the measure being taken and then “monthly”.

Before giving their opinion, however, the judges should ask the regional health authority whether there are places in prisons or in special rooms of hospitals where “the convicted person” can “go back to prison without prejudice to their health”.
