Italy adds another 500 infections, 400 of them in Lombardy

Italy added another 518 more infections this Friday, 402 of which occurred in Lombardy, the region most affected by the pandemic in the north of the country, where the first case was discovered.

As reported by civil defense, these new infections are already diagnosed in the country 234,531, while the death toll after 85 deaths in the past 24 hours is 33,774.

A further 1,886 patients were discharged, which means that 163,781 people have recovered from COVID-19 since the pandemic began. There are currently 5,301 people in hospital, 202 fewer than on Thursday, and 316 in intensive care, another 22 fewer.

Lombardy is confirmed to be the main focus of the pandemic in Italy after adding another 402 infections – 2.1 percent of the tests done on the last day – and 21 more deaths. In total, the region has nearly 90,000 cases and more than 16,200 deaths, while 53,853 patients have recovered.
