Israel’s Defense Minister is quarantined as infections remain at record levels

Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz was put in quarantine as a precautionary measure after he came into contact with a person who had COVID-19 at a time when the country was experiencing an increase in the number of infections, which led to new restrictions.

According to the Jerusalem Post newspaper, Gantz, who will succeed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who will be in office in the medium term under the coalition agreement, will remain isolated until the results of the epidemiological test carried out. has submitted and will continue to work during the quarantine.

Israel registered a new daily infection record on Wednesday. 1,319 cases were diagnosed. This is the third time in a week that the surge of more than 1,000 infections has been exceeded in 24 hours. There are already 32,714 confirmed cases and 343 deaths.

What is currently the most worrying issue is the increase in the number of active cases and those admitted to the intensive care unit. According to the Ministry of Health, there are 107 critically ill patients, compared to 83 late Tuesday, while there are already 36 patients with assisted breathing, two more. Since midnight on Tuesday, active cases have increased from 13,653 to 14,104.
