Israel welcomes Trump for threatening sanctions against the CFI

June 12, 2020

The Israeli government welcomed the President of the United States, Donald Trump, for threatening sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC) and denounced his “politically motivated attempts” to investigate his alleged war crimes in the occupied Palestinian Territories.

“I thank President Trump and the United States government for taking steps against the CFI for their politically motivated and illegitimate attempts to exercise jurisdiction against Israel and the United States,” said Israeli Secretary of State Gabi Ashkenazi from about her account on the social network Twitter.

Trump has approved the imposition of economic sanctions on members of the CFI involved in investigations into the United States, with the aim of “protecting the military” and “defending national sovereignty.”
