The new coronavirus pandemic, which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan, has left more than 3,000 new cases in Israel in the past 24 hours. This broke the daily infection record and fatally infected over 122,000 with a total of 969 victims, according to the Israeli Ministry of Health.
The latest balance is 3,074 new cases of coronavirus, compared to 2,190 positive cases the previous day. Despite the surge in infections, the country kicked off the school year on Tuesday. The government had tried to significantly reduce the number of infections, taking into account that the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah) is celebrated in the middle of the month.
In this context, the Israeli authorities are considering, among other measures, the possibility of a restriction at national level. Israel saw a daily growth of over 2,000 coronavirus cases for the first time last Friday.
The country initially registered few cases due to strict government restrictions, but cases have rebounded after measures were rapidly eased in May. To date, 122,539 have been infected with coronavirus and 969 deaths in Israel.
