Israel sees an “unusual upswing” of 64 daily infections

May 29, 2020

The Israeli authorities will discuss the “unusual increase” in daily coronavirus infections (64 in total) this afternoon to investigate whether it is due to the reopening of restrictions in the country in the past two weeks.

“Restrictions should not be reduced at the expense of social distance rules and the use of masks, but on the contrary,” said the Ministry of Health statement.

The 64 cases range from 8:00 a.m. on Thursday to 8:00 a.m. on Friday, 15 of which have been registered, according to the Jerusalem Post newspaper, since the ministry’s statement was released.

The main focus of this upswing appears to be at a school in Jerusalem where, according to sources in the Ministry of Media ‘Yedioth Aharonoth’, 18 infections were registered.
