The Defense Ministry said Israel launched a new spy satellite on Monday that is in full controversy over the origin of the mysterious explosions that have hit nuclear and weapons facilities in neighboring Iran in recent days.
The Israeli Ministry of Defense and the aerospace industry (IAI) launched the Ofek 16 reconnaissance satellite “successfully” at 4:00 a.m. local time.
For Secretary of Defense Benny Gantz, this is “another extraordinary achievement” at both a military and industrial level. Gantz recalled that “technological superiority and intelligence capabilities are essential to the security of the State of Israel,” according to The Jerusalem Post.
The satellite has already started transmitting data and the engineering team has already started testing to make it fully functional. This marks the first time that Israel has started since 2017 and is developing a special program that started in 1988.
