Israel hits Hamas targets again in Gaza after firing fire balloons

August 17, 2020

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Monday confirmed a new attack on one of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) facilities in the northern Gaza Strip in retaliation for a group of Palestinians launching fire balloons hours earlier.

“During the day, balloons containing incendiary material were fired from Gaza to Israel, and in the afternoon dozens of Palestinians instigated protests along the security fence,” the IDF wrote on its Twitter account.

In response, the IDF has announced that its tanks attacked the “observation posts” set up by Hamas.

The launch of these incendiary balloons has taken place regularly over the past few days, prompting Israel to repeatedly attack targets owned by Hamas, which has controlled this part of the territory since 2007.
