Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, called the Security Council’s rejection of the extension of the arms embargo against Iran “shameful” this Saturday.
“The United Nations Security Council has failed completely in its responsibility for maintaining international peace and security. Instead of allowing the terror regime in Tehran to acquire a deadly weapon, the Security Council should have imposed crippling sanctions against Iran.” he announced on his Twitter account.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi repeated these words and condemned the decision as “a mistake that will undoubtedly worsen the situation in the Middle East”.
“We would like to stress that the Security Council was set up precisely to prevent regimes like the Ayatollahs (Iran) from amassing military forces to take over the region both militarily and ideologically,” he said.
