The Israeli Council of Ministers this Sunday approved a three-week prison sentence, coinciding with major Jewish holidays, to avoid contracting the new coronavirus.
The measure will come into effect on Friday at 2 p.m. before the Rosh Hashanah holiday starts at 2 p.m., Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at a press conference.
Israelis are not allowed to travel more than 500 meters from their homes, unless there are essential needs such as the procurement of food or medicine.
Schools will close on Friday and the private and public sectors will continue to operate, albeit with important restrictions that have not been specified. Supermarkets, pharmacies, and other important stores can open and deliveries are also allowed.
