Iraq registered 5,036 new cases of COVID-19 on the last day, the Ministry of Health announced on Friday. This is the highest number since the pandemic began.
In addition, 84 people died. These data bring the total confirmed infections to 252,075 and the death toll from the pandemic triggered in the Chinese city of Wuhan to 7,359.
Iraq imposed a lockdown and suspended international flights in March to help slow the spread of the coronavirus. However, the number of infections has steadily increased since the government began easing restrictions in recent months.
