Iranian Foreign Minister Mohamad Yavad Zarif has assured that the lack of consensus in the UN Security Council on the resumption of sanctions shows that “illegal harassment is re-isolating the United States at international level”.
“It is time for (US President) Donald Trump to stop listening to mainstream stalkers,” Zarif said on Twitter, hours after UN Security Council shift chief Dian Triansyah Djani gave the Washington Diplomatic Initiative folder .
The US Ambassador to the United Nations, Kelly Craft, issued a statement criticizing the position of the Security Council, which she has accused of “lack of courage and moral clarity”, similar to what has already been said in the face of refusal to expand, the arms embargo against Iran, which expires in October, was used.
“For months we told the council that President Donald Trump would never allow the world’s largest government sponsor of terrorism to freely buy and sell planes, tanks, missiles and other types of conventional weapons,” he said.
The United States has among the main deniers of the sanctions Germany, the United Kingdom and France, the latter two countries, which are permanent members of the UN Security Council and therefore have the right of veto. The three European powers are striving to maintain the nuclear agreement signed with Iran in 2015.
