Iran reports 2,190 new cases and 117 deaths from COVID-19 in 24 hours

The Iranian health authorities reported 2,190 new coronavirus infections and 117 more deaths from COVID-19 on Friday. This makes the Islamic Republic the twelfth country in the world that has been hardest hit by the pandemic.

The spokeswoman for the Iranian Ministry of Health, Sima Sadat Lari, has increased the provisional balance of victims to 367,796 infected people and 21,137 deaths. In addition, just over 3,800 patients in intensive care units remain in severe condition, according to the Tasnim agency.

To prevent contagion, this week’s spokesman recommended that the population not travel this weekend to celebrate Ashura Day, a particularly important holiday within the Shiite community.
